COMMERCIAL AND HOSPITALITY INTERIOR DESIGN IN GLEBE, SYDNEY
SYDNEY SEAFOOD SCHOOL
COMMERCIAL HOSPITALITY INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Sydney Seafood School in Glebe is designed as a layered, immersive environment that moves beyond a traditional teaching facility. The space balances the demands of a high-performance culinary setting with the experience of a hospitality venue, allowing it to function seamlessly as a place of learning, connection and shared experience.
The design is guided by a narrative of The Earth, The Land and The Sea. Rather than being interpreted literally, this concept informs the spatial planning, material selection and overall atmosphere, creating a cohesive interior that feels grounded, refined and connected to its context.

OUR COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN APPROACH FOR THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
The project is conceived as a sequence of interconnected environments, each with its own identity, unified through a consistent material palette and carefully considered detailing.
Spatial planning establishes a clear progression, from more enclosed, grounded teaching areas through to open, light-filled spaces that engage with the harbour. This transition supports a natural shift from focused learning to more relaxed, social interaction.
Material selection plays a key role. A restrained palette of timber, stone, metal and textured finishes balances durability with warmth. This approach allows subtle moments of contrast and refinement, while ensuring the space performs within a high-use environment.
SPATIAL EXPERIENCE

AUDITORIUM
The auditorium is designed as a grounded, intimate space that supports focus and engagement. Warm timber joinery, layered textures and integrated lighting create a controlled yet inviting environment. Tiered seating ensures clear sightlines and strong interaction between the instructor and the audience.
The result is a highly functional teaching space that still feels comfortable, refined and engaging.

KITCHEN & BAR
The teaching kitchen balances durability with design refinement. Stainless steel workstations deliver performance, while surrounding joinery introduces warmth and continuity with the broader interior.
At the centre, a curved bar acts as both a functional hub and a social anchor. Its softened form encourages movement and interaction, while vertical timber detailing and integrated lighting give it a crafted, furniture-like quality.
Above, a sculptural ceiling feature adds rhythm and texture, referencing organic forms in a subtle and controlled way. The space is designed to perform under pressure while remaining warm, inviting and highly social.

DINING & FUNCTION SPACE
The dining and function area shifts the atmosphere to something lighter and more open. Oriented toward the harbour, the space becomes expansive and outward-looking, with a softer material palette and subtle blue tones reflecting the surrounding environment.
A considered ceiling installation and mosaic detailing introduce texture and visual depth while maintaining a cohesive design language.
Designed for flexibility, the space transitions seamlessly from daytime teaching and casual dining to evening events and private functions.
THE OUTCOME
The result is a cohesive, multi-functional interior that supports education, hospitality and social interaction without compromise.
By balancing technical performance with a strong spatial identity, the design delivers a space that is both functional and elevated, durable and efficient, yet warm, engaging and connected to its context.
