Tavira Bakehouse
Hospitality Interior Design at Sydney Fish Market
Tavira Bakehouse was imagined as a contemporary bakery and café experience that balances warmth, sophistication and everyday accessibility within the highly active environment of Sydney Fish Market. Designed by 3Xi Studio, the project draws inspiration from the Portuguese town of Tavira, blending traditional flavours with a modern Australian interpretation while drawing influence from coastal European bakeries and artisanal food halls.
The result is a refined hospitality interior centred around craftsmanship, theatre and connection — creating an inviting customer experience within one of Sydney’s most iconic food destinations.
Contemporary Bakery & Café Interior Design
The design focuses on elevating the traditional bakery experience through a carefully layered material palette and highly considered spatial planning. Curved display arches, warm walnut fluted timber detailing, textured lime-washed walls and natural split-face limestone work together to create an environment that feels timeless yet contemporary.
Bronze mirror accents and brushed nickel detailing introduce a subtle sense of refinement, while integrated lighting enhances the warmth and tactility of the interior throughout the day and into the evening.
As a hospitality interior design project, the space was carefully planned to balance customer flow, product visibility and operational functionality without compromising the overall aesthetic experience.
Bakery Display & Customer Experience
At the heart of the design is the bakery display itself, envisioned as a theatrical focal point that places freshly baked goods at the centre of the customer experience. Open shelving, illuminated niches and transparent display cases create moments of visibility and interaction, allowing the preparation and presentation of products to become part of the spatial narrative.
The seating area was designed to provide a more intimate and welcoming experience within the larger marketplace environment. Custom banquette seating, layered textures and warm walnut timber finishes soften the surrounding industrial shell of the building, encouraging customers to pause, gather and engage with the venue beyond a purely transactional experience.
Material Palette & Spatial Identity
Materiality played a critical role in establishing the identity of Tavira Bakehouse. A restrained palette of limestone, marble, textured render, timber and deep coastal blue upholstery references both the surrounding maritime context and the authenticity of traditional European bakeries.
The balance of tactile finishes and clean architectural forms creates a space that feels elevated yet approachable — combining the warmth of a neighbourhood bakery with the sophistication of contemporary hospitality design.

Tavira Bakehouse reflects 3Xi Studio’s approach to hospitality interior design in Sydney — where storytelling, atmosphere and functionality are seamlessly integrated to create memorable customer experiences.
The result is a warm, culturally rich bakery environment that celebrates heritage, quality and creativity in every detail while establishing a strong visual identity within the Sydney Fish Market precinct.
